March 28 – A new week of CNN Student News begins with a report on who is set to take the lead on coalition operations in Libya. We visit a cherry blossom festival in Washington, D.C. to hear how some Americans are showing support for disaster victims in Japan. We tour some of the safety features of a U.S. nuclear facility. And we remember Geraldine Ferraro, an American political pioneer.

Today on CNN student news, they talked about a cherry blossom festival in Washington D.C. Many Americans and Japanese people got together to show their support for all the victims in Japan. I think that is very nice. In this situation, all the countries of the world should get together to help Japan recover from this horrible tragedy.

On the before we go segment they talked about earth hour. Many cities around the world turned all the lights off for an hour. I think that is good because we are saving energy and we are helping the environment. well that’s all for today!

There was a segment about earth day. 100 countries took part in this and shut off their lights. I don’t know why people think this helps the environment. The next day they will use all the electricity and it’ll keep adding up. I don’t see what’s the point if all your doing is cutting off electricity for a day. It is like only behaving well for one day, it does not help at all.

In addition, a nuclear plant showed tours to prove that their plant was safe. Obviously, people do not trust each other. They make a business people isn’t that enough proof that it’s safe? People are so needy these days demanding that they should know everything just to make sure they are safe. However, in all seriousness, one person who worked for CNN was there and showed what failed in the Japanese plant. One person who worked at the plant said he doubts there will ever be a plant and after that, Ms.y said never say never.

    NATO takes over
The NATO is finally going through with a plan to take the lead of the fight in Libya. Since the beginning the American navy has been the leader but with are depression we could not afford to keep fighting as the lead or fighting at all. We will still be apart of the effort but we are going to do as little as possible. I personally would rather have are nation not fighting in the battle because we are not in a stabile financial position. Are president is the one who started this and he must be the one to end it. We are in trouble and Obama is not doing any thing about it.

    Cherry blossom festival
In Washington DC a festival called the cherry blossom festival reminds us of are strong ties to Japan. This year it is doing much more it is saving lives in the jadedness disaster. People who went to the event had a chance to give donations to the relief efforts in Japan. I think it is nice that they have a festival for this because the 2010 censes reported that are japans population has grown by 12%.

Today on CNN Student News Carl Azuz talked about how in Washington D.C, they had a cherry blossom festival. This festival is meant to celebrate America and Japans relations, and also to honor all those who have died in the tsunami, earthquake incident. The reason for the celebration having the theme of cherry blossoms is because Japan gave America a bundle of cherry blossoms to represent peace and harmony amongst the two countries.

In the state of Alabama, the employees of a local nuclear power plant decided to make a tour and give access to the public to go to the power plant. The reason for this is because the state of Alabama wants to reassure its citizens that it very unlikely that what happened in Japan, is going to happen in the United States, but it is not impossible. They say that the generators have back ups if they shall fail, and if they backups fail, they’ll always have a plan.

Today I am going to write about two subjects, the cherry blossom festival and nuclear power plant.

On the CNN Student News they were talking about the cherry blossom festival that happens in the U.S. every year to celebrate our brotherhood with Japan. It was really important this year because of the disasters in Japan. I thought it was really sweet because people in Japan are going through a hard time right now.

Another subject the talked about was the nuclear power plants in the U.S. They said what is happening in Japan with the power plant can’t happen in the U.S. they are preparing for the worst so what is happening there, won’t happen here. That is a really good idea because we don’t want this to happen again. I hope nothing goes wrong with these ideas.

  6. MerondaW. Says:

Today on Cnn Student News I found out that they did a tour on nuclear power plants. I thought it was pretty cool because it is rare to see inside of the power plant. I wish I could go inside of one and wear a helmet. The building can withstand a 6.0 earthquake! Incredible!
Also on the “Before We Go” segment I found out that a lot of people were participating in Earth day Power out Hour, it is where people turn off everything for an hour. I didn’t think a lot of people would participate in it. I bet a lot of energy wasn’t used just because of an hour. :)

  7. Andrew D. Says:

    The Andrew Report

Earth Hour was the other day and many countries participated in the event. To celebrate the event, countries turn off all their lights. It is said that by doing this, it will save energy, shows why this is haw you celebrate earth hour. But I have found that it takes more energy turning on and off the light take more energy then keeping it on.

Also there was and argument on rather or not to have one persons allergies affect all students school lives. I don’t think that you should blow the student off, but the current rules are a little over-board. The people who say they can live with it don’t actually know if they can or not, they are just making statements to make them-selves to look nice.

Today on CNN, A Cherry Blossom Festival for Japan, A kid’s health issue and how it affects a whole school, and Earth hour.

First a Cherry Blossom Festival for Japan. We had this festival in honor of Japans awful Earthquake and the terrible floods. I was happy to see so many people trying to help and support Japan. I wish I could have gone. Not only would I be supporting Japan but I would smell desirable cherry blossoms. They smell so good!
A kid’s health issue in Florida affects a whole school, and parents are very unhappy. A young girl goes to school, but she has a very serious allergy issue, that is causing new rules in the school, and many parents argue that this kid should not be at this school. I personally think that it would be unfair to ban a girl from school just because she has allergies. I think that it would be like cutting her out of the world. She is still a human being and should be treated like one.
And lights out for Earth hour! Cities all over the world turned off their lights Saturday night for Earth hour to help the environment. I think it was a great thing to do. I don’t think people realize how much just one little thing could change our Earth. I can’t wait for Earth day.

Today on CNN STUDENT NEWS they talked about how in Japan there is still a tsunami. The tsunami went over a bridge. Went to a parking lot full of cars and push them over to a building like toys. I think that the tsunami won’t stop for a long time.

In addition they talked about how some countries went lights out. They went lights out for 1 hour and 30 minutes. They did this at 8:30 pm. They were saving money for those countries that do lights out. They also save power in case something happens. I think that those countries are smart.

  10. Bryant M Says:

Today On CNN Students News they talked about how people visted a cherry blossom festival in Washington, D.C. I think that was nice of people to do because people in japan are in a really bad times right now. So i think its pretty cool for then to do somethin like that if i lived in Washington i would have attended that cherry blossom.

They also talked about how people are turning there lights off for earth day. They had to turn there lights out for an hour. If i would have new about this i would have done the same thing.

  11. Laura A. Says:

Today on CNN Student News Carl Azuz talked about how people in Washington D.C they had a Cherry Blossom Festival for the ones that are messing and that are dead. Its great that Americans care about the people over there and the disater.
Carl Azuz talked about how people around the world are parcitapate the lights out. People are turning off the lights of EVERYTHING for an hour. For Earth Day.

  12. alejandro g Says:

This past Saturday, was earth day this earth day countries around the world turned off their lights. At 1:30am is when people turned off there lights. I think that more and more people should do this every earth day not only is good for the environment but it also helps families spend more time together they can go outside and play some games like catch or just play bored games with the family .

On this episode of CNN Student news there was a story about the power plants that are in the United States of America. The power plants that we have are earthquake resistant. The reactors at our plants even have shock absorbers. It can out stand a 6.0 earthquake and it can out stand a 1,000,000 year flood.

There was also a story about how cities around the world are shutting off their lights for one hour. They are doing this for earth day. They are saving money for the world. Some examples of the cities would be Paris and Sydney. Now that is all for today.

Today on CNN Student News they talked about the crisis in Libya and the cherry blossom festival that was in the U.S. the crisis in Libya is still going on? This has to come to an end soon. This has been going on for approximately a month, maybe more. Muammar Quaddafi should jus step down from power! He has been in power from around the 1970’s. This is an outrage that the crisis is still going. I don’t see why he don’t jus leave so there aren’t anymore problems.

Second they talked about the cherry blossom in the U.S. the people that were in this festival wanted the people in Japan to know that they do care. They say that this cherry blossom festival is very special, more special than any other. I think this is a really good way of showing they do care.

  15. Anthony Jett Says:

Today on cnn student news they talked about they disaster that the tsunami and earthquake caused. The nuclear powerplant was letting off alot of radiation. They said that it was letting it of 1million times faster, but an official said it was only 100,000 times faster. They also set up a festival to show that the United States cares for Japan, and that we will help them put their couty back together.

They made a nuclear powerplant in Alabama. The powerplant does the same thing that the powerplant in Japan does. I think that this was smart so that our economny wont change that much. I hope that a tsunami doesnt hit the powerp[lant and ake things worse. A man said that he is sure that a 40 foot wave wont hit the powerplant. I dont think that it will matter, because the shock absorbers that they put in the reactors can in sustain a 6.0 earthquake when a much worse eathquake hit in Japan. I hope nothing happens to this powerplant.

Today on Cnn student news, a very sweet scented festival. The cherry blossom festival in Japan is getting celebrated in the United States. I love how this festival is getting celebrated with all the problems in Japan. Just because of the nuclear power plant problems and the tsunami doesn’t mean there is not a time for parting.
In addition, a world wide celebration, Earth hour! Lights went out for a full hour all around the world to help go eco for just a little bit. Most countries famous monuments with their lights turned off. How nice for earth!

  19. Shawn H Says:

Today on CNN Student news, they showed a cherry blossom festival for the japanese who have to take the crap from the earthquake. They chose the cherry blossom because Japan brought it into America. A cherry blossom…that gets eaten by a possom…isn’t that awesome.

They also had an “Earth Hour” where Earth shuts off all its lights in a country if the country participates, the only problem with that is if it is nightime, you can not see a thing until the hour is up. But once we’re done making Earth a mess we can move onto Mars.

  20. liz Says:

Today on CNN student they talked about a flood hitting japan. Hundreds of cars had hit a building and had been forced inside the building. People were amazed what they had saw. I’d be amazed too if that had happened to me.
Today on CNN student news they had talked about earth day. People are going to have lights off for an hour. Over 10 countries had tried the earth hour. I would attend to do the earth hour to. I hope everybody in earth would to.
